ELECTIONS
The
Directors’ Guild of the Philippines,
Inc. (DGPI) has re-elected Director
Tony Reyes to head the guild for the
third consecutive year at elections
held last Chinese New Year’s
Day, Feb. 18 (Sunday).
The other elected officers
are the following: Mark Meily, chairman
of the board; Soxy Topacio, vice-president;
Jose N. Carreon, secretary; Mel Chionglo,
treasurer; and board directors Emmanuel
Borlaza, Joey Gosiengfiao, Joel Lamangan,
Maryo J. de los Reyes, Carlitos Siguion-Reyna
and Romy Suzara.
There are three new
board members in the persons of Suzara,
Gosiengfiao and Siguion-Reyna (a former
president of DGPI) who took over the
seats of Joey Romero, Edgardo ‘Boy’
Vinarao and Rudy Meyer.
In the first board meeting
after the elections, the DGPI officers
lined up several projects for this
year, including the Third Gawad Direk
awards in November or December, and
an April convention of DGPI director-members
which will have leaders of the local
film industry as resource persons.
The board voted on the
six awardees for the Third Gawad Direk
and will later announce the winners
who will be honored in November or
December this year.
The new board also reviewed
the list of current DGPI members.
Acccording to the guild’s secretariat,
the roster of members listed 52 directors
as of last Sunday although three of
them are now in the United States—Lav
Diaz, John D. Lazatin and Efren Piñon.
