The FILM EDITORS GUILD FOR MOTION PICTURES (FEGMP) is the off-shoot of the FILM EDITOR’S UNION OF THE PHILIPPINES (FEUP) which was formed in 1967 with the following as original organizers; FELY CRISOSTOMO (Film Editor of Tamaraw Studios) , VIC CALUB (Chief Editor of Premiere Prod., Inc.) , ATILANO SALVADOR (Film Editor of Premiere Prod., Inc.) , GERVACIO SANTOS (Film Editor of Premiere Production Inc. ; Tagalog Ilang-Ilang Production) , JOVEN CALUB (Film Editor of Lynn Romero Production & Larry Santiago Production) , NARIO ROSALES (Chief Editor of Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.) , JOSE TARNATE (Film Editor of Sampaguita Pictures Inc) , MARCELINO NAVARRO (Film Editor of Vera Perez Production) , IKE JARLEGO SR. (Chief Editor of L.V.N Pictures, Inc.) , TEOFILO DE LEON (Editor of L.V.N Pictures) , GREGORIO ARBALLO (Editor of L.V.N Pictures) , SEGUNDO RAMOS (Editor of Tamaraw Studios) , CIELITO “Nonoy” SANTILLAN (Editor of Junar Productions,Tagalog Ilang-Ilang Production)

Elected First President of UNION was Fely Crisostomo (1967) , Segundo Ramos (1968) , Narrio Rosales (1969) , Gervacio Santos (1970-1971) , Atilano Salvador (1972) , Marcelino Navarro (1973,) Gervacio Santos (1974-1983) , Teofilo de Leon (1983) , Gervacio Santos (1984-1986) , Oscar Dugtong (1987-1988) , Edgardo Vinarao (1989-1990) , Rogelio Salvador (1991-1992) , Edgardo Vinarao (1993) , Patnubay Ramos (1994-1995) , Cielito Santillan (1996-2001) , Jose Solo (2001–2005) , Jesus Navarro (2005-present).
In 1981, under the Martial Law Regime of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, the First Lady, Mrs. Imelda Romualdez Marcos insisted in the formation of the FILM ACADEMY OF THE PHIL. as the umbrella organization under which, the different sectors of the industry, an organized pictures of the Phil. movie Industry, especially to the delegates of the Manila International Film Festival, first held in 1981, as organized by the First Lady of the Philippines.
Under this set-up, the Film Editors Union of the Philippines was prevailed to change it’s status to that of a Guild. Thus the FILM EDITORS GUILD FOR MOTION PICTURES was formed. In 2005, because of internal and registration problems, the name was changed and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as: UNITED FILM EDITORS GUILD OF THE PHILIPPINES, thus it is now named.
