To date, Ricky Davao has appeared in more than 80 movie projects from 1978 ranging from comedy and drama to action films. He has worked with the best Filipino directors namely Lino Brocka, Mel Chionglo, Mario J. de los Reyes, Celso Ad Castillio, Gil Portes, Carlito Siguion Reyna, Laurice Guillen, Eddie Garcia, Marliou Diaz Abaya, Chito Roño, Joel Lamangan, Mario O’Hara, Eddie Rodriguez and Mike de Leon.

Some memorable projects have been:

“White Slavery”, with Jacklyn Jose, directed by Lino Brocka;

“Abot Hanggang Sukdulan”, with Snooky Serna (where he was awarded best supporting actor by the Filipino Academy for Movie Arts and Science in 1989), directed by Eddie Rodriguez.

“ Ang Lalaki Sa Buhay Ni Selya or The Man In Her Life”, with Rosanna Roces (winner of the Jurdy Teddy Award – Berlin Film Festival 1998, Best Picture – Newport International Film Festival 1998, participant in around 20 international film festivals among them; Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, Turin Gay and Lesbian Filom Festival, Toronto International Film Festival);

“Ipaglaban Mo, The Movie”, with Chin Chin Gutierrez (where he won best actor in both the Manila Film Festival and Cine-Manila International Film in 1999), Philippine entry competitive division in the Moscow International Film Festival, 1999 and the Philippine representative to the 1999 OSCARS and Golden Globe Awards, directed by Gil Portes.

“Bayaning Third World”, with Joel Torre, Cris Villanueva, and Lara Fabregas, directed by Mike de Leon, 1999. The film won Best Picture award for Urian in 2000. IT was voted by Urian in 2002 as one of the Ten Best Films spanning three decades in the local movie industry.

“Minsan May Isang Puso”, with Jacklyn Jose and Carlo Aquino; directed by Jose Javier Reyes, where he won Best Actor in the 2001 Star Awards, Film Academy of the Philippines and PASADO – a group of film critics from 29 schools in Metro Manila.

“American Adobo”, shown in January 2002, with Christopher de Leon, Dina Bonnevie, Cherry Pie Picache and Paolo Montalban, directed by Laurice Guillen. This film was shot entirely in New York with an all-American crew and was co-produced by Kevin Foxe, executive producer of the movie, The Blair Witch Project”.

Ricky started his acting career on stage and has appeared in the Philippine productions of “Bent” by Martin Sherman, “Hedda Gabler” by Henrick Ibsen, “The King and I”, where he played the role of King of Siam, as well as Philippine plays; “Felipe de las Casas”, a Filipino musical – Larawan, “Rebecca Defensor”, “Biyaheng Timog”, “Nobyembre”, “In Frailty’s Grace”. He won Best Stage Actor in 1987 for local satire, “Bongbong at Kris” and the stage drama, “Sawi (Frustrations) in 2000, both from Aliw Awards. He played Herod in the original version of the musical, “Jesus Christ, Superstar” staged in Manila. In August 2002, he played the role of Dado in the stage version of the movie “Insiang” which was written by Mario O’Hara in the late 1970’s.

Ricky is also a mainstay of Philippine television as actor and director of some weekly drama anthologies.
