FAP OSCAR COMMITTEE CHOOSES BIRDSHOT by fapweb  |  Posted in Articles  |  on Tue, Sep 26, 2017

The Film Academy of the Philippines committee tasked to choose the local film for submission to the 90th Oscar Awards has officially selected Birdshot as the Philippine entry to the best foreign language film category of this prestigious annual award.

The film was chosen by the 7-man committee over eight other local films which were shown between October 2016 to September 2017. Birdshot started its commercial run during the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino of the Film Development Council of the Philippines last August 16, 2017..

The other films reviewed by the committee were Die Beautiful by Jun Lana; 1st SEM by Dexter Hernandez and Allan Ibanez; Ang Araw sa Likod Mo by Dominic Nuesa; Kita Kita by Sigfrid Bernardo; Ang Manananggal sa Unit 23B by Prime Cruz; Patay na si Hesus by Victor Villanueva; Triptiko by Miguel Franco Micelena; and Sunday Beauty Queen by Baby Ruth Villarama.

Birdshot was produced by PelikulaRED, Tuko Film Productions, Buchi Boy Films and CJ Entertainment and directed by Mikhail Red from a screenplay of Mikhail Red and Rae Red. The film’s cast included Mary Joy Apostol, Arnold Reyes, Ku Aquino and John Arcilla.

This year’s Oscar committee of FAP was headed by Director-Scriptwriter Jose N. Carreon as chairman with the following as members: Ms. Gina Alajar; Director Mel Chionglo; Ms. Liza Dino; Mr. Jag Garcia; Dr. Rolando Tolentino; and Ms. Raquel Villavicencio.

The voting among the six committee members ended in a tie between Birdshot and Sunday Beauty Queen. The committee chairman had to break the tie and chose Birdshot.
