All guilds under the umbrella supervision of the Film Academy of the Philippines will be represented by officers and other members during the Film Development Council of the Philippine film workers summit which will be held at the University of the Philippines Film Center on August 30 and 31.

Summit participants are expected to register at the lobby of the UP Film Center starting at 8 a.m. on both days of the summit.

The ground-breaking summit, supported by FDCP Chairperson Liza Dino and FAP Director-General Leo G. Martinez, will tackle several issues, including the film industry development plans of FDCP, the magna carta for the film industry, and the forthcoming Centennial of Philippine Cinema in 2019.

The FDCP issued an event brief regarding the film workers summit which is hereunder quoted in full:

“The Film Workers Summit is a 2-day conference gathering film workers from different sectors to gain insight on the current conditions in the film industry and discuss the workers’ rights and privileges.

The event will serve as a venue to launch two workers’ focused projects of the Film Development Council: the FDCP National Registry of Film Workers and the Magna Carta for Film Workers. Panel discussions, forums and workshops headed by various stakeholders in the film industry will be held during the two-day event, as well as SSS, Philhealth and Pag-IBIG info sessions and registrations for FDCP members who would want to avail of their services on-site.

The event will serve as an initial needs assessment and preliminary data gathering of the working conditions of the film industry in order to provide solutions to the pressing problems of our self-employed workers. It will be the first step for FDCP in championing the rights and welfare of the film industry workers, by recognizing them as the primary driving force behind the flourishing of a professional and united Philippine film industry.”

The target audience of FDCP will involve at least 500 film workers from various sectors such as actors, producers, directors, technical workers, production staff, creatives and artistic staff.

The Academy guilds will include the Directors Guild of the Philippines, Inc.(DGPI); the Philippine Motion Picture Directors Association (PMPDA); the Katipunan ng mga Artistang Pilipino sa Pelikula at Telebisyon (KAPPT); the Screenwriters Guild of the Philippines;
the Filipino Society of Cinematographers; the Pilipino Musical Directors Association Inc.
