The phenomenal popularity of Aldub has changed the landscape of the local tv. Hindi lang sa ratings nakikita ang labanan dahil kasali na ngayon ang Twitter when it comes to the estimated audience share of tv shows.

According to eyewitnesses, it all started when the camera panned on Alden who was innocently watching Yaya Dub gesturing with her Pabebe Wave. The noticeable spark in Alden’s eyes didn’t escape the audience. At yun ang simula ng pakilig ng Aldub, coined from the names of Alden and Yaya Dub.

That segment in Eat Bulaga, called Kalyeserye, was launched 2 months ago. It is actually a skit where the setting is in the actual location of their barangay visit. Starring Lola Nidora and Yaya Dub played by Wally Bayola and Maine Mendoza respectively.

Main support is provided by Jose Manalo as Tinidora and Paulo Ballesteros as Tidora. Bukod sa nasabing mga characters, may iba pang papel si Wally gaya ni Dhuriz na karibal ni Yaya Dub. Si Jose Manalo naman ay may papel na Frankie, karibal ni Alden.

Napakarami pang bit roles gaya ng mga bodyguard ni Lola Nidora na ang mga pangalan ay pare-parehong Rogelio. In a nutshell, Kalyeserye has depth when it comes to creativity dahil sa mga unique characters and names used in the story.

The usual setup is a screen that shows Alden in the studio while another screen shows Yaya Dub on location. That split-screen is the style of Kalyeserye. Instantly ay nakikita ng sabay ang 2 location kasali na rin ang mga hosts ng Eat Bulaga na sina Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto at Joey De Leon.

The skit is performed live with countless of camera around the set. At kahit alam ng audience na skit lang iyun ay sakay na sakay naman sila sa istorya. Kudos to the creative department dahil may substance ang kuwento at mahusay ang cliffhanger kaya inaabangan ang kasunod na kabanata.

The success of a show is always measured by way of ratings. Pero this time ay Twitter ang ginamit na sukatan. On September 12 ay nakapagtala ng record 6 million tweets and Aldub at sa sumunod na Sabado ay nakakuha ito ng 12 million tweets na isang world record daw.

Dahil alam nating mahigpit ang competition ng mga noontime shows kaya naghain ng Pastillas Girl ang Showtime. Isang segment ito ng reality show kung saan si Miss Pastillas ay naghahanap ng boyfriend. Just like the old dating game or Rhoda and Me hosted by Ronald Remy.

On September 26 idinaos ang 6th anniversary ng Showtime, the rival noontime show of Eat Bulaga, which was held in Araneta Coliseum. Ang panghakot ng Showtime ay ang mga love teams ni Kathryn Bernardo at Daniel Padilla, Enrique Gil at Lisa Soberano, Nadine Lustre at James Reid.

Ang Eat Bulaga naman ng GMA-7 ay naglunsad ng so called Pabebe Wave Day bilang pantapat sa nasabing anniversary show ng Showtime ni Vice Ganda, Billy Crawford, Anne Curtis, Karylle, atbp.

Ang Pabebe Wave ang pigil na pagkaway na pinauso ni Yaya Dub. At ang Pabebe Wave ay naging symbol na rin ng Aldub. Bukod sa Pabebe Wave Day ay naka-highlight rin sa menu ang pagdalaw ni Alden sa mansion ni Lola Nidora para sa kanilang pagkikitang muli ni Yaya Dub.

So on that Saturday, the grand battle was between a variety show filled with romantic pairs and a romantic skit. Kung ang pangalan ng mga artista ang pagbabatayan ay no match ang Aldub sa all-star cast ng Showtime’s anniversary.

When the shouting was over, nakita ang official count for a 24-hour period:
Aldub – 25.6 million tweets
Showtime – 6.3 million tweets.

At sa tv ratings naman ay Aldub pa rin ang nangunguna. In AGB Nielsen, Aldub got 45.7 percent audience share while Showtime had a measly 11.7. Dinaig pa ng Aldub ang rating ng Pacquiao-Mayweather fight with 44.4 percent audience share.

Sa national ratings ng Kantar Media, 30.8% ang Eat Bulaga samantalang ang Showtime ay may 22.5% lamang. Marahil ay hindi makapaniwala si Vice Ganda at ang kanyang mga kasama sa Showtime sa lumitaw ng numero sa ratings board.

May kasabihan na numbers don’t lie kaya mahirap pasinungalingan ang tweet counts at ang resulta ng ratings. Kumakalat tuloy ang usap na magre-reformat daw ang Showtime pati ang iba pang shows ng ABS-CBN na naapektuhan ng Aldub phenomenon.

At kung inaakala ninyong dyan natatapos ang kabanata, nagkakamali kayo dahil meron pang MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival) na sa ngayon pa lang ay malinaw na kasali ang Aldub sa entry ni Vic Sotto at Aiai Delas Alas.

Mananaig kaya ang Aldub over Vice Ganda in the MMFF battle or can Vice Ganda maintain his status as the MMFF box office king? Abangan…
