Pasay City turned over to the Film Academy of the Philippines last Monday, November 3, the amount of P289,816.65 as its 20 percent tax share on the 25-centavo Cultural Development Tax collected by movie houses for the period December 2013 to September 2014.
Pasay City turned over P1,463,545.02 for the years 2010 to 2013.
This is the fourth such turnover by Mandaluyong. On August 2, 2011,the city turned over to the Academy the amount of P353,540.49 (for the years 2008 to 2010) and on February 11, 2013 , two checks for P114,052.60 (for 2011) and P118,735.40 (for 2012). The city has so far turned over a total of P1,147,420.74.
Six other Metropolitan Manila cities have also turned over the Academy’s share of the cultural tax from 1992 to 2013.
Quezon City had actually released five checks to cover the cultural tax share of the Academy. The checks were in the amount of P4,976,251 (1992 to 1997); P5,835,508 (1998 to 2008); P2,889,593 (2009 to 2011); P475,077 (2012); and P251,722.24 (May-Dec. 2013) for a total of P14,428,153.36.
Manila had already turned over P2,744,746; Makati, P5,082,282.70; Mandaluyong (2008 to 2012), P1,147,420.74; Caloocan City (1999-2011), P197,312; and Pasig City, P48,533.79.
