Tres, the first Sine Panitik film trilogy produced by the Film Academy of the Philippines featuring adaptations of classic Filipino short stories, will be shown in the Quezon City International Film Festival on November 5 to 11 at the Ayala Trinoma Cinemas 3 and 4.
Tres includes the film adaptations of Faith, Love, Time and Dr. Lazaro by Gregorio Brilliantes (directed by Jose N. Carreon), Tata Selo by Rogelio Sikat (directed by William Mayo) and Sandaang Damit by Fanny Garcia (directed by Edgardo ‘Boy’ Vinarao).
It is the first in a series of films that envisions to translate into cinema the classic Philippine literary masterpieces under the Film Academy’s Sine Panitik program. These short sories are included in the curriculum of Philippine literature subjects taken at the elementary, high school and college levels.
Tres will have two screenings at Cinema 3 Trinoma during the filmfest—5 p.m. on Nov. 8 (Saturday) and 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 (Monday).
The film will start its booking in school campuses after the QC International Filmfest. Initial exhibitions are scheduled in Laguna; Cainta, Rizal and; Daet, Camarines Norte.
Tres was produced with the support and cooperation of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Quezon City Film Development Commission (QCFDC), and the Department of Education (DepEd).
Then Gov. E.R. Ejercito of Laguna and Mayor Sarion of Daet, Camarines Norte also assisted the Academy by providing the sites and locations for the shooting of the film project.
Others who supported the FAP were PAGCOR, Fernando Ortigas, Joseph Calata, Ignacio B. Gimenez, Gerry Apolinario, Gerry’s Grill, Sogo Hotel and Eurotel.
The Academy will soon start pre-production of Sine Panitik 2 which will adapt the following stories: The Virgin by Kerima Polotan-Tuvera (directed by Peque Gallaga); Magnificence by Estrella Alfon (directed by Laurice Guillen) and Utos ng Hari by Jun Cruz Reyes (directed by Soxie Topacio).
The Film Academy will soon announce the six winners of the second Sine Panitk scriptwriting contest. Like the first seven winners of the initial contest, the winners of the 2nd Sine Panitik will also be adapted into films.
