SIX SPECIAL AWARDS HANDED OUT by fapweb  |  Posted in Articles  |  on Thu, Dec 27, 2007

In its silver anniversary version of the Luna Awards, the Film Academy of the Philippines gave out six special awards—including two posthumous awards for Manuel Conde and Vic Silayan.

The FPJ Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Rudy Fernandez and Celso Ad. Castillo while the Manuel de Leon Award for Exemplary Achievements were given to Ms. Charo Santos-Concio and Mr. Wilson Y. Tieng.

The citations of the six awards are reprinted as follows:

FERNANDO POE JR. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

to

RUDY FERNANDEZ

for his successful efforts during his three-term stint as president of the Kapisanan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon (KAPPT) to steer their guild into becoming an industry leader in working for the welfare and well-being of performers, in particular, and movie workers, in general;

for his unrelenting belief that filmmaking entails a commitment to exert his utmost and do the best within his capability as an actor and a producer to amass a body of work that eschews mediocrity and raises the level of filmmaking a notch higher than usual;

for proving beyond doubt that he has taken to heart the discipline of a true thespian by winning the best actor award of the Academy two times—for Batuigas: Pasukuin si Waway in 1984 and Birador in 1998;

for generating employment opportunities to stuntmen and movie workers through his own production outfit, Reflection Films, which was busiest during the halcyon days of the local film industry.

for consistently tackling the theme of our national identity and the dignity of the Filipino in his films, like Asedillo, Julian Makabayan, Pedro Tunasan, Aliw-iw;

for encouraging a new breed of young filmmakers who admire, respect and look up to him as a complete, highly accomplished film auteur whose footsteps they are more than willing to follow.
