The recently-held Basic Computer Workshop of the Film Academy had produced the third batch of graduates.
Led by class valedictorian Vicfrehn Gonzaga, the other workshop graduates are Lita Duguran of SGP (Screenwriters Guild of the Philippines), Romulo Araojo of FSC (Filipino Society of Cinematographers), legman Domingo Bautista, Vincent Nota, Lorielam Pastrana and the sons of stuntman Eddie Mañalac headed by Edrian, Edwin and Edzen.

Unlike the first two batches, the 3rd batch was held for 6 days covering 3 weekends – from November 24 and 25 up to December 1, 2, 8, and 9.
“Unanimous kasi ang comments dun sa mga naunang batches na kulang daw ang oras kaya we decided to add 2 more days,” says Alex Socorro, the workshop instructor. Since the sessions are full hands-on, the participants were treated to a taste of the technology.
Aside from the actual assembly of the computer system, another requirement is to master the concept of devices, storage media and file naming convention.
“It would be difficult to proceed to internet if the participant doesn’t know what a file is, di ba? Lalo na kung walang background, mahihirapan lang at baka sumurender pa,” says the instructor whose session plan was intended for adult learners.
Introduction to some software was also taken up as it is also important for the participants to see some basic utility programs like the MS Word and Excel spreadsheet. Some game softwares were also demonstrated to point out that computers are not only for working but also for entertainment.

Subsequent to the internet concept was the actual creation of the individual email accounts. Each participant was asked to write down their evaluation of the workshop which were later on emailed to Mr. Leo Martinez, the FAP Director General.
The next workshop slated for next year is in February. Those interested can email this website or can call the Film Academy landline at 415-3880 local 808.
