The 40th Metropolitan Manila Film Festival for December 2014 will be launched on Wednesday, March 5 at Club Filipino, San Juan City. An appreciation dinner for last year’s filmfest will also be held which will include the giving of cash awards to last December’s filmfest winners.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will also give the first tranche of the last filmfest’s amusement tax rebate to the beneficiaries which include the Film Academy of the Philippines.

This comes under the shadow of a complaint by the Academy that the share of the beneficiaries was short of P82 million for the period 2002 to 2008 according to the Commission on Audit. The Academy has sought an explanation from the MMDA about this but the two agencies have not yet started a dialogue.

The winners in last year’s filmfest awards night—which was held at the Meralco theater on Dec. 27, 2013—that will receive the cash awards are the following:
