Cinema Rehiyon, Filming the Frontiers, a project of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, was held in Cagayan de Oro last February 18 to 22. Film Academy of the Philippines officers—Director General Leo G. Martinez, Actors Guild president Rez Cortez and Director William Mayo, the incoming chairman of the Cinema Committee of the NCCA—attended the event.
The festival opened on Feb. 18 with the showing of Banaue, directed by National Artist for Film Gerardo de Leon held at the SM City Cinema 3, the venue of most of the screenings of feature length and predominantly short films produced in Mindanao and the Visayan regions. Other events during the filmfest were held at Xavier University.
The festival closed on Feb. 22 with the screening of Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon? of another national Artist for Film, Eddie Romero.
In between the two classic films, short films and feature length films from Mindanao, the Visayas and even Luzon, were also shown at the SM Cinema and XU Little Theater.
Cine Talakayan which was held for delegates and guests on Feb. 19 and 20.
The Feb. 19 Cine Talakayan was held at the Pryce Plaza Hotel with the following topics: DRRM and Films by Engr. Dexter Lo; Film and Social Responsibility by Ms. Leni Velasco; Film and Social Development by Arnel Mardoquio and Film Marketing and Distribution by Ellen Ongkeko Marfil.
The Feb. 20 Cine Talakayan was held at the Xavier University Little Theater. The topics were Filmmaking Student: a Film Thesis and Learning Process by Jenriel Pons Lagot; and The History of Cebuano Films by Radel Paredes.
Cine Likha (Acting for Film) was held for two consecutive days on Feb. 20 and 21 with Leo Martinez and Rez Cortez at the Xavier U Little Theater.
