Her real name was Rosario Ventaja. She was born on October 4, 1916 in Sta. Cruz, Manila. She was an extra in Diwata ng Karagatan made by Nepomuceno Production in 1936.

As an extra in Diwata ng Karagatan, she has shown her penchant for dramatic acting. Nepomuceno Production gave her full-fledged support as a leading lady in their forthcoming productions. Diwata ng Karagatan was subtitled in English and given the movie title Triumph of the Seas. The film actually starred Rogelio de la Rosa, Adela Flunkers and Mari Velez under the direction of Carlos Vander Tolosa. Songs and music were composed by Miguel Velarde Jr. The film was shown in 1939 in South America and Europe.

But the producers of Parlatone Hispano-Filipino actually gave Rosario Moreno her first starring role in Luha ng Ina with co-star Carlos Padilla Sr. as the leading man. The film’s success at the box office made her a full dramatic star.

In 1936, she made for Parlatone Hispano-Filipino drama films such as Ang Kambal, Sa Paanan ng Krus, Pusong Dakila and Anak Dalita. And because she undeniably became a box-office star, other production companies hired her services.

Sampaguita Pictures of the Vera Perez clan cast Rosario Moreno in a series of 1938 drama films like Inang Mahal, Mapait na Lihim and Alipin ng Palad. In the last film, which was written and directed by Octavio Silos, she portrayed
a battered character.

In 1939, she starred opposite Rudy Concepcion in Tunay na Ina which cemented the Rosario Moreno-Rudy Concepcion loveteam. In the same year, she appeared in Siya’y Aking Anak and Lagot na Kwintas which were still box-office hits though Rosario had other leading actors.

She was again busy doing movies in 1940 at other film studios. Excelsior Productions hired her to shoot some films opposite her perennial loveteam Rudy Concepcion in such movies as Dating Sumpaan, Magpakailanman and Pakiusap. The cast of Pakiusap also included Naty Bernardo, Sylvia Rosales, Naty Rubi, Pedro Faustino, Billy “Surot” Vizcana, Franco Garcia, Joaquin Gavino and the SSS trio. The film was directed by Octavio Silos.

It was also in 1940 that she made her last film with Rudy Concepcion, Mahal Pa Rin Kita. Rudy Concepcion died of peptic ulcer.

Her last movie before the Japanese invasion was Perfidia

She also appeared in the 1946 film Libingang Bakal opposite Leopaldo Salcedo. In Lagot na Kwintas, her co-star was Rogelio dela Rosa.

Nicknamed Charing, she was fond of cooking. She married character actor Fernando Royo on February 18, 1940. Royo appeared in such films as Sunset Over Corregidor (Krus ng Digma), made in 1948 and Sagur and Siyudad sa Ilalim ng Lupa, both made in 1949.

Rosario Moreno was pregnant when she died at their residence in Sampaloc which was directly hit by a Japanese bomb on January 9, 1945 during world war II. She was only 28 years old.
