Martinez paid a courtesy visit last Wednesday, Feb. 4, to Quezon City Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte to present a certificate of appreciation for the council resolution urging the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to transfer the management of the Metro Manila Film Festival to the Philippine movie industry.
The FAP group actually presented two certificates of appreciation. The other certificate was awarded to Councilor Ramon P. In the meeting with the vice-mayor, Director-General Martinez sought the help and support of the vice-mayor and the city council regarding the ongoing riff between the MMDA and the beneficiaries of the amusement tax rebate collected during the two-week filmfest.
Vice-Mayor Belmonte vowed to support the moves of the Academy to demand
that the beneficiaries get the right and just amount of amusement tax rebate in lieu of the COA audit report findings that the MMDA failed to turn over P81 million due them during the years 2002 to 2008.
Since October, the FAP has sought a dialogue with MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino regarding this matter. Up to now, there was no move from the MMDA to meet with FAP officials.
The FAP delegation that paid a courtesy call on Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte also included Director William Mayo, president of the PMPDA, Director Joel Apuyan, president of AD-PM, Director Jose N. Carreon, Jaime Cuales of AD-PM, Dirctor Pablo Vergara, president of the UFIMDAP, together with musical directors Jun Carlos, Ernie Cruz, Mar Lopez and Vicky Lopez.
