Pasay City turned over to the Film Academy of the Philippines the amount of P527,006.27 as its 20 percent tax share on the 25-centavo Cultural Development Tax collected by movie houses for the period July 2012 to Nov. 2013. The check was dated February 4, 2014.
This is the third such turnover by Pasay City. On Sept. 10, 1012, the city turned over to the Academy the amount of P743,271.05 (for the years 2010 and 2011) and on October 4, 2013, the amount of P193,267.70 for the period January to June, 2012. The city has so far turned over a total of P1,463,545.02.
Five other Metropolitan Manila cities have also turned over the Academy’s share of the cultural tax from 1992 to 2011.
Quezon City had actually released four checks to cover the cultural tax share of the Academy. The checks were in the amount of P4,976,251 (1992 to 1997); P5,835,508 (1998 to 2008); P2,889,593 (2009 to 2011); and P475,077 (2012) for a total of P14,176,429.
Manila had already turned over P2,744,746; Makati, P4,798,343; Mandaluyong City (2008-2010), P353,540; and Caloocan City (1999-2011), P197,312.
