The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has extended a P500,000 financial contribution to the Film Academy of the Philippines for its 32nd Luna Awards which is tentatively scheduled for March next year.
With this early financial support, the FAP aims to start the previews by citers of Luna Award-worthy films by this coming December. As of this date, a shortlist of films—shown from January to October this year—has been drawn up with possible nominations in 11 of the 12 Luna Award categories.
Films shown in November and during the annual Metropolitan Manila Film Festival in December will be previewed by the same citers early next year.
The said amount for the 32nd Luna Awards will specifically cover venue and equipment rental expenses, as well as the honoraria for citers, nominators and voters, and the printing of the souvenir program.
FDCP gave the Academy P800,000 for the staging of the 29th Luna Awards (2011), P500,000 for the 30th Luna Awards (2012) and P400,000 for the 31st Luna Awards (2013).
FAP Director General Leo G. Martinez said that the FDCP financial assistance will surely assure an early staging of the Luna Awards in March to coincide with its American counterpart, the Oscar Awards also slated in March next year.
