After four days (actually two weekends) of intensive training, the participants of the Second FAP Computer Workshop are expected to have learned the rudiments of computer operation.
“Supposed to be ay yes, dapat kaya na nilang mag-operate mag-isa,” admitted Alex Socorro, the workshop instructor. “However, hindi naman kasi tig-isa ang computer per participant kaya hindi natin maaasahan na very wide na agad ang knowledge nila. Mukhang kailangan talagang bigyan pa sila ng advanced sessions for further training.”
Workshop valedictorian Liziel Cadiz receiving her prizes from Joe Carreon.
Liziel Cadiz, a participant sponsored by FAP, earned the highest honor for getting a perfect score in the evaluation examination. Second placer was Reuben Paz and 4 participants graduated with honors, namely Tony Benavidez, Isidro Dalay, Joylin Apostol and Vic Dabao. Jose N. Carreon, a noted film director and also the FAPWEB Editor, presided in the graduation rites.
Although there were no speeches, the short ceremony was complete with camera shots and applause. All the graduates have their own email addresses and promised to be connected to each other thru the internet. Some participant who were fast enough, as to be ahead of the others, were able to create their own Friendster accounts.
“Thank you talaga, hindi ko inaasahan na matututo pa ko ng computer. Marunong na ko ngayon,” exclaims Tony Benavidez, a sound technician who belongs to the early bird group.
For his part, Vic Dabao has this to say, “Sana marami pang workshop na ganito kasi marami talaga sa movie industry ang hindi marunong ng computer pero dapat matuto gaya sa editor saka sa musical scoring.” Being an artist, Vic had donated some works of art to serve as prizes and incentives for the workshop topnotchers.
Alex Cabrera, another production designer and visual artist like Vic, had also donated a hand-drawing of Lastikman which he routed to the participants for signature and dedication. That drawing is their batch’s token to the Film Academy. “Sana mai-display po,” Alex Cabrera says with a toothless smile.
