The winners in the student and teacher (high school) categories of the essay writing contest on the most gender sensitive films of last December’s Metropolitan Manila Film Festival have been announced.

The winners in the high school student category are:

First place (P10,000 cash award)
Hindi Sukatan ang Kasarian ni Rommel Manarang (Holy Spirit National High School) on the film One More Try

Second Place (P7,000 cash award)
Ina Laban sa Asawa…Digmaan ng Dalawang Eba ni Jannico G. Cabañero (Judge Feliciano Belmonte Sr. High School) on the film One More Try

Third Place (P5,000 cash award)
Buhayin Mo ang Aking Anak ni Felize Anne Galo (Diamond Maligaya High School) on the film One More Try

The winners in the high school teacher category are:

First place (P10,000 cash award)
Curve Balls and Gray Areas by Mary Anne F. Gabito (Novaliches High School) on the film One More Try

Second Place (P7,000 cash award)
Thy Womb: Pagdalumat sa ‘Sinapupunan’ ng Pinay ni Manuel C. Zacarias (New Era High School) on the film Thy Womb

Third place (P5,000cash award)
Asawa. Ina. Ama. Ni Joanne P. Coriag (Judge Feliciano Belmonte Sr. High School) on the film Thy Womb

The board of judges was composed of Dr. Estrella C. Merca, values supervisor of the division of city schools; Dr. Ligaya A Regis; Atty. Liberty D.O. Roxas; Ms. Estrellita M. Marasigan, Filipino supervisor of the division of city schools; Ms. Romina Phoebe Beltran, consultant on curriculum development of the UP college of education; and Director Jose Carreon of the Film Academy of the Philippines. The chairperson was Dr. Corazon C. Rubio, superintendent of the division of city schools.

Gadrco head Dr. Mary Ruby Palma and Administrative Officer Ana Maria Fajardo supervised coordinated the contest.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista will present the cash prizes to the six winners during the flag ceremonies scheduled on the last Monday of March, March 25, 2013 as a culminating activity of the celebration of Women’s Month.

The essay writing contest was conducted to promote awareness in education and enhance appreciation of gender sensitive local films, jointly undertaken by the Quezon City Gender and Development Resource and Coordinating Office, the office of Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte and the QC. Division of City Schools.
