The Intellectual Property Office has invited officers and members of the guilds under the umbrella supervision of the Film Academy of the Philippines and other stakeholders in the local film industry to an assembly on Nov. 20, to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the NCCA Darangen Hall, 3rd floor, 633 NCCA Building, General Luna St., Intramuros, Manila.
Atty. Ricardo R. Blancaflor, IPO director-general, in his invitation letter, emphasized that the meeting will be a continuation of the fruitful collaboration between the IPO and the local film industry stakeholders, with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in providing guidance regarding intellectual property rights, particularly copyright.
Atty. Blancaflor mentioned in his letter: “Since March 2008 to March 2011, a series of copyright lectures and conferences (referred to as Punto de Vista Pelikula) were conducted in Manila and different regions where mainline as well as independent filmmakers and other creative sectors involved in the filmmaking process were informed about their rights under the Intellectual property Code (Republic Act No. 8293).”
The forthcoming assembly will focus on prospects for collective management and audio visual performance under the Punto de Vista Pelikula series.
Atty. Blancaflor further stressed: “This year’s informal gathering focuses on specific copyright issues: Collective management of copyright and the recently concluded “Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances.”
The IPO director-general added: “It will be a great opportunity to closely interact with collective management experts both local and foreign and to consider the benefits of accession to the Beijing Treaty.”
