With the tenth month of this year almost over, fifteen local films are shoo-in as box office achievers for 2012. The list will surely be shaken up after the showing of the entries in the forthcoming Metropolitan Manila Film Festival-Philippines (MMFF-P) in December.

The MMFF-P is still two months away. Let us go through the list of box office hits this year:

But only the first three films are at present lodged in the top ten box office hits of 2012 with foreign films dominating. The Mistress is number three, Unofficially Yours number six and Kimmy Dora number 9.

This year’s box office foreign hits are as follows:

1. The Avengers (released in April) P601.07 M
2. The Amazing Spiderman (June) P339.88 M
4. The Dark Knight Rises (July) P219.58 M
5. The Bourne Legacy (August) P200.25 M
7. Wrath of the Titans (March) P145.96 M
8. The Hunger games (March) P140.01 M
9. Men in Black 3 (May) P131.19 M

It is still possible, however, that two or three more local films will barge into the Magic Ten circle at the end of the year.

Strong box office showings of the three MMFF-P topnotchers will surely usher them into the magic circle while This Guy’s in Love With U, Mare, with strong legs in evidence, may reap more box office dividends in its later Metro Manila runs as well as in the provinces.
