The Cinemalaya Foundation has announced the finalists for the Short Film Category for the 2012 Cinemalaya Competition.

The ten finalists are as follows:

Bohe: Son of the Sea by Nadjoua E. Bansil

Ang Paghihintay sa Bulong by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo

Pasahero by Mario Celeda

As He Sleeps by Sheron Dayoc

Sarong Aldaw by Marianito Dio Jr.

Balintuna by Emmanuel Escalona Jr.

Ruweda by Hannah Espia

Ulian (Senility) by Chuck Gutierrez

Manenaya (Waiting) by Seymour B. Sanchez and Richard Legaspi

Victor by Jarell M. Serencio.

The Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition seeks to discover, encourage, and honor the cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity.

The works are narrative features that articulate Filipino identity and culture in digital format.

The competition is held in three categories: the Directors Showcase, the New Breed Full Length Feature and the Short Feature.

The Directors’ Showcase are: Bwakaw (dir. by Jun Lana); Kalayaan (dir. by Adolf Alix Jr.); Kamera Obskura (dir. by Raymond Red); Mga Mumunting Tinig (dir. by Jose Javier Reyes); and Posas (dir. By Jeffrey Jeturian).

The New Breed Feature Film entries are: Aparisyon (dir. by Vincent Sandoval and Darlene Malimas); Dayo (dir. by Julius Sotomayor Cena); Diablo (dir. by Mar de Guzman); Ang Katiwala (dir. by Aloy Adlawan); Lola Igna (dir. by Eduardo W. Roy Jr); Ang Nawawala (dir. by Marietta Mari Jamora); Oros (dir. by Paul Sta. Ana and Obet Villela); Requieme (dir. by Loy Arcenas); and Santa Nina (dir. by Emmanuel Palo).

The 8th edition of Cinemalaya will be held on July 20-29, 2012 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It is a project of the of the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc., in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), and the Econolink Investments, Inc. (EEI).

Cinemalaya also features film exhibitions, seminars, conference, the Cinemalaya Film Congress, and other film-related events.
