The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has extended a P500,000 financial contribution to the Film Academy of he Philippines for its 30th Luna Awards. The Academy resumed giving out awards for distinguished achievements in local filmmaking last year after a two-year hiatus.
In a letter addressed to FAP Director General Leo G. Martinez dated February 10, 2012, FDCP Executive Director Teodoro Granados, in behalf of Chairman Briccio G. Santos, said: We are happy to inform you that FDCP will contribute the total amount of not more than Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (P500,000.00) for the event.
The said amount for the 30th Luna Awards will specifically cover printing and rental expenses, as well as the honoraria for citers, nominators and voters.
Last year, FDCP gave the Academy P800,000 for the staging of the 29th Luna Awards.
Executive Director Granados explained that the Council could not grant the same amount as last year in view of the numerous projects that it is undertaking this year, most notably funding: for the seed money for the winners of the National Film Competition; for the construction of more cinematheques and a larger film archive; and for the staging of numerous Sineng Pambansa Film Festivals nationwide.
The last awards held by the Academy before last year’s 29th version was the 26th Luna Awards (for films shown in 2007) held at the Mandarin Oriental Suites of the Gateway Mall in Cubao, Quezon City on February 8, 2009 with the financial assistance of the FDCP, under then Chairman Rolando S. Atienza.
DG Martinez said that with the increase to 20 percent of FAP’s share in the amusement tax rebate during the last Metropolitan Manila Film Festival-Philippines, budgetary requirements for the annual awards will again be assured with the assistance of the FDCP.
