Pagsanjan Mayor Jeorge (E.R. Ejercito) Estregan, president of the Katipunan ng mga Artistang Pilipino sa Pelikula at Telebisyon (KAPPT), announced a general waiver of membership and annual renewal fees or dues to all present and incoming members who will join this year’s Star Olympics.
The blanket waiver was approved during the recent meeting of the officers and board of directors of KAPPT to encourage and bolster participation in the once-prestigious and popular Star Olympics.
In a memorandum to the general membership, Mayor Ejercito listed those who can avail of the waiver as the following:
–All stars and artists who will participate in the Star Olympics 2006 whoare already members of KAPPT will have their membership and annual renewal fees waived.
–Stars and artists who will participate in Star Olympics 2006 who are not yet members of KAPPT will automatically be added to the roster of the guild with their membership fees waived.
The incoming members should submit their corresponding applications for membership, forms of which will be distributed together with the invitation letters for the sportsfest. The accomplished application forms may be submitted to the KAPPT secretariat at the Sampaguita studios compound or may be sent by fax through telephone number 413-3563.
Mayor Ejercito explained that the waiver is intended as one of the incentives for actors and actresses to participate in the Star Olympics this year and the coming years to bolster efforts to strengthen ties among members, thus fostering greater unity and camaraderie among KAPPT actors and actresses.
Star Olympics 2006 is scheduled for nine days, covering three sports events—badminton, volleyball and basketball though a lot of production numbers for the entertainment of the expected crowds are also slated.
The sportsfest will be held in six sports venues in Metro Manila with the opening on Saturday, September 16 to unfold at the Rodriguez Sports Center in Marikina. The day’s program includes the parade of stars, presentation of the country’s popular and favorite actors and actresses, the lighting of the Star Olympics torch, the presentation of team colors, as well as several production numbers and stunts to be performed by various stuntmen’s organizations. The opening day will be aired the following day over Channel 2.
The badminton tournament will be held the next Saturday, September 23, at the Ninoy Aquino Memorial Center in Vito Cruz.
The volleyball and basketball tournaments will be held for six consecutive days from Otober 2 (Monday) to 8 (Sunday). The games in these two round-robin tournaments will be held daily from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the following venues:
–October 2 & 3, Pasig Sports Center.
–October 4, Parañaque Sports Center.
–October 5 & 6, San Andres Sports Center (Manila)
The semi-finals and finals will be held on October 7 & 8 at the San Juan Sports Center.
The volleyball and basketball games will be covered live by Channel 23. There are also plans to have live coverage of the volleyball and basketball games by Channel 23 while a documentary show on two decades of the Star Olympics is being worked out to air on QTV 11 from 9 to 11 p.m. of October 14 (Saturday).
