The finalists in both New Breed and Directors’ Showcase of the 8th Cinemalaya Film Festival were recently announced. There will be 10 New Breed entries and five Directors’ Showcase entries.
Finalists for the Short Films category will be culled from finished films whose deadline for submission is February next year. Unlike entries in the first two categories which are in script form, the short film category submission are in finished film products.
The finalists for the New Breed Full-Length Features are:

In last year’s 7th Cinemalaya Filmfest, the major winners were:
Directors’ Showcase: Best Film—Bisperas by Jeffrey Jeturian; Best Director—Aureus Solito (Busong); Best Actor—Bembol Roco (Isda); and Best Actress—Raquel Villavicencio (Bisperas).
New Breed: Best Film—Ang Babae sa Septic Tank; Best Director—Marlon Rivera (Ang Babae…); Best Screenplay—Chris Martinez (Ang Babae…); Best Actress—Eugene Domingo (Ang Babae…); and Best Actor—Edgar Allan Guzman (Ligo na U, Lapit na Me).
Short Film: Best Film—Walang Katapusang Kwarto by Emerson Reyes.
