The Lenten Photo contest of UCANEWS.COM – Union of Catholic Asia News – closed out with the awarding rites at the Archbishop’s Palace in Villa San Miguel, Mandaluyong City, on May 12, 2011.
Corie Henson, our contributing writer, won the grand prize for her entry entitled It Ain’t Heavy which gathered 4,825 votes. The photo was taken on the Good Friday of 2006. Henson received a Canon SX130 camera for her prize.

The simple ceremony cum breakfast was presided by Norma Jean Viehland, head of operations. On hand for the introduction was Joe Torres, Jr., editor in-chief of www.cathnewsphil.com, the local arm of UCANEWS.COM.
Guest of honor was Bishop Bernardino Cortez who gave a short talk on church traditions.
Also in attendance was Noli Yamsuan, a professional photographer, who came with his wife Peachy. Noli donated a coffee table book as prize for the Photographer’s Choice.
Mrs. Mercedes Verzosa-Gerlock represented the UCANEWS board. She was escorted by her husband Ed Gerlock, another photography practitioner and professor.

Raffled off to those who voted in the contest were 3 portable hard disks of 320 gb. Unfortunately, the raffle winners were not able to attend. They were, however, advised to redeem their prizes in the UCAN office.
