The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines has allotted ten slots for delegates of the country’s two local film producers’ guilds in the forthcoming National Conference on Copyright and the Philippine Film Industry on March 2 and 3 at the Silangan Hall of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Deadline for pre-registration and confirmation is on February 22.

The IPO coursed through Director General Leo G. Martinez the invitation to the Prodyuser ng mga Pelikulang Pilipino sa Asya (PMPPA) and the Movie Producers Distributors Association of the Philippines (MPDAP).

The conference is organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in coordination with IPO, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and CCP.

Precious Leano, project director of the conference, said that the two-day Conference will discuss the legal and financial complexities within the film industry, from the perspective of the small-size film producer and/or entrepreneur.

She added the discussion among the delegates will focus on the importance of strategically managing intellectual property (IP) rights throughout the main stages of film production and increasing awareness of copyright as applied in the film industry.

Leano expressed hopes that by the end of the Conference, the participants would be able to appreciate the value of copyright in the local and international scene and the need for contractual negotiations for copyright including option agreements and production and distribution contracts.

The Conference also aims to develop skills of producers/filmmakers in contract and rights negotiation; and strengthen partnerships with key institutions and stakeholders in the copyright industry, Leano explained.

The Conference is free and by invitation only as limited slots are available. Representatives of the film industry from both mainstream and independent productions and allied groups in distribution and exhibition will be invited.

To confirm participation, kindly pre-register online until 22 February 2011 at https://spreadsheets.google.com or contact Ruth Pequierda of the Media Arts Division of the CCP at +632 832 1125. For substantive inquiries, please email precious.leano@gmail.com
