Within a week before the start of the 36th Metropolitan Manila Film Festival Philippines on Christmas Day, five indie films will be shown as a satellite filmfest in recognition of the emerging role indie films have assumed locally.
This is one of the innovations introduced in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino also announced that four members of the board of jurors will come from the masses—specifically a teacher, a student, a bus driver and a housewife.
The four jurors—together with the usual representatives of film practitioners and the academe—will follow a set of guidelines that had been revised to give weight to artistic and quality components instead of commercial considerations.
The five indie films selected by a screening board are:
Nasaan si Hefte?, directed by Jonnah Lim, starring Darryl Wesley Shaw and Anna Luna, produced by Barjonah Productions and Events and Artists management.
Presa, directed by Adolf Alix Jr., starring Anita Linda, Rosanna Roces, Jodi Sta. Maria and Tetchie Agbayani, produced by Astral productions.
Rindido, directed by Noriel M. Jarito.
Senior Year, directed by Jerrold Tarog, produced by Franco Alido.
Slow Fade, directed by Rommel Sales, starring Princess Lara Quigaman and Diether Ocampo, produced by Brainchild Creative Solutions Corporation.
