The 2nd Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival will be held at the University of the Philippines Film Center on August 11-12. The film fest will screen films on the theme human rights directed and produced by independent filmmakers, students and migrants.
The filmfest celebrates the 25th year anniversary of Lino Brocka’s Bayan Ko, Kapit sa Patalim with a showing of the film at 7 p.m. on August 11 with the original cast and crew invited.
Bayan Ko, Kapit sa Patalim was a Philippine entry to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Brocka and his group of artists crusaded against the censorship of this film. They lost in litigation but won a fight for freedom of expression when the film was allowed to be shown in the Philippines in 1985.
Film screenings for the festival proper will start at 1 pm. Admission is free.
The filmfest entries will also be shown in other schools, communities and workplaces. The filmfest will tansfer to the Asia Pacific College on August 16 and the University of the Philippines Los Banos banch on August 26.
Selections from the film festival will also be shown in the Focus Philippines: New York Filipino Independent Film Series in New York on October.
The 2nd Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival is presented by alternative video group Tudla Productions in cooperation with the University of the Philippines Film Center, Institute for the Leadership and Advancement of Women and the Rotary Club of Pasay Gil Puyat.
