The board of governors of the Film Academy of the Philippines in its last board meeting last Tuesday, June 22, drew up a list of nominees as possible heads of both the Film Academy and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
The list of nominees was immediately transmitted to Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada who has been designated by President-elect Benigno ‘Noynoy C. Aquino III to handle and monitor the concerns of the local film industry and coordinate with film-related organizations.

In its letter to Senator Estrada, incumbent Director General Leo Martinez
also indicated that the Academy will go along with the choice of Ms. Grace Poe-Llamanzares as chairman of the Movies and Television Ratings and Classification Board.
The Academy also supports the initiatives of the senator to transfer the management of the Metropolitan Manila Film festival (Philippines) from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to the MOWELFUND and the film industry.
The letter also confirmed that the Academy will also support the creation of a National Film Commission.
Earlier, the Nagkakaisang Manggagawa ng Pelikulang Pilipino and the Directors’ Guild of the Philippines Inc. also submitted their own list of nominees to Sen. Estrada.
The nominees included Tony Reyes for FAP; Bibeth Orteza-Siguion Reyna for FDCP; Clodualdo del Mundo Jr. for NCCA; Emmanuel Borlaza for MTRCB; and the retention of Ronnie Ricketts as Optical Media Board chairman.
