The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will launch the 2007 version of the Metro Manila Filmfest on March 2 even as it hosts an appreciation dinner where shares of rebates from the amusement taxes will be granted to six beneficiaries and cash incentives and awards to entries and winners in last year’s filmfest. The venue for the event is tentatively set at the Great Eastern Hotel on Quezon avenue in Q.C., Metro Manila.

Manny Nuqui, member of the Filmfest Executive Committee (Execom), said that a short program will include the launching of the 33rd version of the filmfest which began in 1975. MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando will lead the official launching of the 2007 filmfest.

Officials of the six beneficiaries, producers (especially of the nine entries in last year’s filmfest) MMDA officials and mayors and other officers of the 13 cities and four towns that comprise Metropolitan Manila are expected to attend the dinner ceremonies.

Nuqui explained that an early launching of the filmfest will enable interested producers to have more time in preparing their screenplays for submission to the screening committee by June this year.

The six beneficiaries which will be given partial allotments of their shares in last year’s filmfest amusement taxes are MOWELFUND, the social fund of Malacañang, the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the Movie Industry Anti-Piracy Organization, Inc. and the Optical Media Board.
