Star Cinema’s Ikaw na Nga, one of the eight entries to this years Metropolitan Manila Film Festival, was pulled out by its producers due to Miss Kris Aquino’s personal reasons.
Star Cinema, however, may still field another film, I Love You, Goodbye, which was also submitted to the screening committee of the MMFFP but did not make the cut.
The screening committee has recommended to the executive committee of the Festival that I Love You, Goodbye can become the eighth entry based on this portion of the festival rules: “…should any of the eight selected film projects be disqualified or withdrawn, the replacement shall come from the entry next in line but subject to genre and/or lead star limitation.”
Malou N. Santos, in a letter to MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando dated July 15, explained that Kris backed out from the project due to personal reasons. She also furnished the execom chairman Kris’ resignation letter in which she said the illness of her mother, Corazon Aquino, was the main reason behind her decision.
Kris wrote: “My mother is presently confined in the hospital because of complications of her colon cancer. My family and I have committed to spend as much time as we can to be with her and attend to her needs.”
Ikaw na Nga should have been directed by Wen Deramas based on a script written by Artemio Abad Jr. & Athena Aringo. I Love You…Goodbye will be directed by Laurice Guillen. Its cast includes Gabby Concepcion, Angelica Panganiban and Derek Ramsay.
Up to this time, Tuesday, July 21, no official announcement has been released by the MMFFP execom regarding the change in the MMFF 2009 lineup of entries.
As announced last July 2, the seven other films chosen by the screening committee were:
