The Philippine Motion Picture Directors Association (PMPDA) conducted a successful seminar-workshop intended for professional filmmakers at the Janet Resort in Matabungkay, Batangas from July 10 to 12.
PMPDA President Dir. William Mayo sourced out the funding to provide accommodation, food and transportation to the more than 50 persons who had signed up.

Janet’s Beach House in Matabungkay, Lian, Batangas, is a good 3 hours from Manila but the seminar participants enjoyed the cool ride in the coaster on the Friday afternoon of July 10. The venue is owned by Janet Ballelos and is ably managed by Rolly Bernardo, a production designer.
Topics discussed ranged from the digital characteristics of the video footage up to the non-linear editing and laboratory processing. Technical details were presented with the help of a projector chart plus the printed handouts.
The speakers were headed by Mike Arevalo and Jason Hernando of Broadcom, the main distributor of Panasonic video cameras. They had brought along demo units that enhanced their vivid presentation.
On the second day, Angelo Santos spoke lengthily on the processing involved in coming up with the film as medium. He detailed the procedure and included costings. The articulate speaker is the representative of SQ laboratories, reputedly a working museum for the cinema industry.
Dave Hukom explained the role of the computer in video editing, costing, techniques and timelines. A many-time speaker in FAP-sponsored activities, Dave used to head Ignite Media which is now merged into Post Manila headed by Dondon Monteverde.
After some gathering of information in the open forum, William Mayo announced that the continuation of the seminar is a movie project which they plan to start within the week. All the seminar participants will be involved since the project is the hands-on part of the seminar.
