The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Republic of South Korea will hold an Independent Cinema Workshop at the National Arts Center in Makiling, Los Banos, Laguna from July 15 to August 8, 2009.
Nick Deocampo, workshop director, said 22 young filmmakers from Southeast Asia—10 ASEAN countries and South Korea—will be invited to participate in the three-week training and production workshop.
He added that participants—aged 18 to 35 years—must make country projects of ten minutes each on the theme of Rice and Environment. These short films will be assembled to form a full-length omnibus film, he stressed.

Meawnhile, Director William Mayo, president of the Philippine Motion Picture Directors Association, said that the first day of the July 10-12 PMPDA seminar in Matabungkay, Batangas, will focus on digital language.
Mayo said that after this lengthy lecture on digital language, the seminar-workshop will lectures and hands-on demos on the use of new digital cameras from Sony, Panasonic and various film post-production houses like Optima Digital, Ignite and SQ Film Laboratories, as well as Keyser Mercantile of Fuji film products.
The seminar is financed by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Film Development Council of the Philippines with financial assistance from Senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla Jr., Quezon City Mayor Sonny Belmonte, National Housing Authority General Manager Rico Laxa and world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.
Some 60 PMPDA members and other representatives from different guilds of the Film Academy of the Philippines will attend the three-day seminar.
FAP Director General Leo Martinez and Chairman Espiridion Laxa will also grace the event.
