A total of 58 local films—24 of them digital indie films—was the output for last year. This was slightly higher than the 50 films shown in 2007.

The Cinema Evaluation Board of the Film development Council of the Philippines gave an A rating to 12 films (including three digital films) and a B rating to 17 films (with only one digital film).

The citers of the Film Academy of the Philippines will soon choose from the 50 films shown last year the best ten for each of the 12 categories of the 27th Luna Awards.

The A rated films include the following: UFO Pictures’ Endo (digital); Seiko Films’ Pisay (digital); Panoramanila Pictures’ Ploning; Star Cinema/Viva Films’ Caregiver;

Regal Entertainment Inc./APT Entertainment’s Urduja; Star Cinema/Viva Films’ A Very Special love; Regal Entertainment Inc.’s Kulam; Solito Arts Productions/Seiko Films’ SAP; Martinez-Rivera Films’ 100 (digital); and the three 2008 Metro manila Filmfest entries Cutting Edge Productions’ Dayo; Viva Films’ Baler and Maverick Films’ Magkaibigan.

The B-rated films were the following: Regal Entertainment Inc./GMA Films’ My Best Friend’s Girlfriend; Star Cinema’s My Big Love; Star Cinema’s When Love Begins; Viva Films’ Ikaw Pa rin; Centerstage Productions’ Serbis; AD Productions’ Paupahan (digital);

APT Entertainment/RVQ/M-Zet Films’ Dobol Trobol; Vila Films’ Torotot; Star Cinema’s For the First Time; GMA Films/Viva Films’ I.T.A.L.Y.; Star Cinema’s My Only You; Regal Films/GMA Films’ One True Love; Regal Entertainment Inc.’s Shake, Rattle & Roll 10;

Regal Entertainment Inc.’s Desperada 2; Star Cinema’s Ang Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat; OctoArts Films/Canary films’ One Night Only and OctoArts Films’ Iskul Bukol.

The rated A films in 2007 were the following:

Faces of Love (Seiko Films); Batad…Sa Paang Palay (Phil. Company of Performing Arts, digital); Ouija (Viva Films/GMA Films); Foster Child (Seiko Films); Ataul for Rent (Artiste Entertainment); Resiklo (Imus Productions); Sakal, Sakal, Saklolo (Star Cinema); and Katas ng Saudi (Maverick Films).

The breakdown of Rated films from 2003 to 2006 is as follows:

2003—two Rated A; 12 rated B
2004—two Rated A; 12 Rated B
2005—five Rated A; 15 Rated B
2006—nine rated A; 23 rated B.
